Man Bags 16 Weeks In Prison For Stealing iPhones

One Rabiu Yusuf has been sentenced to 16 weeks in prison by a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for stealing two iPhones.

The two iPhones are reportedly worth N678,000.

Delivering judgement on the matter on Tuesday, the Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, held that the convict failed to give the court a reasonable explanation of why he committed the crime.

The court’s judgement is after the convict, who resides in Ali Akilu Road, Kaduna, who was convicted of criminal conspiracy and theft, pleaded guilty to the allegations.

After sentencing Yusuf to 16 weeks in prison, the magistrate cautioned him to desist from any criminal act or face a more stringent punishment if found wanting in the future.

News About Nigeria reports that the prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, had earlier told the court that the defendant committed the offence with two other persons who are currently at large, on Sept. 13, 2024 at Kurmin Marshi Kaduna.

According to Leo, the defendant stole the two iPhones all valued at N678,000 from the shop of the complainant, Zainab Salisu.

Providing details, he explained that the defendants, along with two accomplices, entered the shop pretending to purchase clothing materials and stole the two iPhones while they were left to charge.

“It was later discovered through a CCTV camera that it was the defendant who stole the phones,” the prosecutor said.

He added that the phones were traced and the defendant was arrested at his resident with the stolen phones.

According to the Police Inspector, the offence contravened the provisions of Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
