Kidnapper Arrested In Abuja

Officers from the Onikan Police Division arrested Yakubu Yusuf, 28, on Monday morning for allegedly vandalising aluminium railings on a bridge near the Old School of Nursing, leading to the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

The police apprehended the suspect after receiving a tipoff about the incident.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Onikan reportedly received information around 6:42 a.m. about a gang damaging the bridge’s railings.

Acting swiftly, the DPO dispatched the division’s anti-crime patrol unit to the scene, where Yusuf was caught in the act.

Officers recovered 21 long sections of aluminium railings, though other members of the gang managed to escape before they could be arrested.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that an investigation is underway to capture the remaining suspects.

The Command also reiterated its commitment to protecting public infrastructure and maintaining security in the state.

In a related development, News About Nigeria reports that the Lagos State Taskforce arrested 54 suspects for allegedly engaging in illegal activities, including issuing fake tickets and extorting money from truck drivers and commercial vehicle operators trying to enter Lagos.

The arrests were made in various locations, including Isolo, Mushin, Apapa, Mile 2, and the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, said that the arrests were part of the agency’s mission to curb illegal activities and maintain order in the state.

“This illegal ticketing system has been operating for far too long. We are committed to arresting and prosecuting anyone who imposes unjustified fines on trucks and commercial vehicles,” he said.

“These practices are not only illegal but also detrimental to the state’s economy.”

He urged residents and business owners to report any suspicious activities to the agency for swift action.

The arrested suspects will be charged to court.
