Terrorists Attack, Flood: Gombe Donates N50m To Yobe State

The Gombe state government has announced the donation of a sum of N50 million naira to Yobe State.

News About Nigeria reports this is contained in a statement signed by Mamman Mohammed, the director general of press and media affairs, to the Gombe state Governor, on Friday.

Inuwa Yahaya, the Gombe state governor, said the donation is a support of its efforts to provide succour to victims of the Mafa terrorist attack and flooding across the state.

Represented by his deputy, Manesiah Daniel Jatau, on Friday, Yahaya described the attack on the community as “sad and unfortunate.”

The governor reiterated that the donation was to support the state government in providing assistance to the victims.

“We share with you the double tragedy of the attack on the community and the floods that claimed some lives, and swept away houses and farmlands,” the statement reads.

Speaking further, Yobe State governor Mai Mala Buni commended the Gombe State government for standing with his government and the people of the state at such a challenging time.

“I am highly delighted with this show of sympathy and brotherhood exhibited to us by the government of Gombe State, we will continue to cherish this support, care, and visit,” Buni said.

He described security challenges as a global phenomenon that required collective efforts to halt.

Recall that Dungus Abdulkarim, Yobe police spokesperson, said gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents, looted and set ablaze shops and houses in Mafa village of Tarmuwa LGA.

Abdulkarim said the gunmen killed an “unspecified number of people and dropped some fliers with Arabic inscriptions.”

A letter penned in Arabic revealed the group’s motive, citing the village’s alleged military ties as justification.

On September 3, Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, said the attack occurred during Maghrib prayer when the gunmen shot sporadically into the gathering.
