The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) from the Joint Task Force Northwest Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) have reportedly killed Kachallah Buzu, a notorious bandit commander, and several fighters in Mayanchi village of Zamfara state.
News About Nigeria reports that Zagazola Makama, a counter insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, confirmed the development on Friday.
Makama stated that an Intelligence source told the publication that the operation was carried out on September 12.
“In a major breakthrough against terrorism, troops from the Joint Task Force Northwest Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) have successfully eliminated notorious bandit commander Kachallah Buzu and several of his fighters in Zamfara State,” the reports reads.
“The operation, which took place on the night of September 12 in Mayanchi village, was the result of an ambush laid by the military following intelligence reports on the terrorists’ movements.
“Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the ambush led to the neutralization of numerous bandits, including their leader, Buzu.
“In addition to the significant loss of life among the insurgents, the troops seized 30 motorcycles and a large cache of weapons, further crippling the group’s operational capabilities.
“The success of this operation was a significant victory in the ongoing efforts to combat banditry in the Northwest region.
Recall that the counter insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, said that NAF thwarted a terrorist attack on Department of State Services (DSS) facilities, in the Shiroro LGA of Niger state on Wednesday.
The publication added that the airstrikes inflicted heavy casualties on the bandits, killing at least 28 and scattering many more.
