Adamawa Shifts Schools Resumption Date, Cites Flood

The Adamawa State government has announced an extension date for the resumption of schools in the state.

The new date for the resumption and commencement of the first term of the 2024/2025 academic session has been shifted by two weeks.

News About Nigeria reports that this is disclosed in a circular released on Friday, September 13, 2024.

The circular asked all Zonal Directors, Initiating Principals, and Principals to comply with the new resumption date.

It was gathered that this decision was made in response to an alert issued by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMeT) regarding impending floods in some local government areas of the state.

The Acting Executive Secretary of the Post Primary Schools Management Board, Bilsan Panuel, disclosed this in a statement.

The statement read, “With reference to the above subject matter, I hereby write to inform you that the First Term 2024/2025 Academic Session resumption date is now September 30, 2024.”

It added that the extension was “due to the anticipated flood disaster that we will be experiencing. Please adhere strictly to the above information.”

The flood has been an issue of concern lately in the country, with the Borno and Yobe states witnessing a devastating situation in the past few days.

On Tuesday, many residents abandoned their homes due to the heavy flood that took over communities in Borno.

The Alau Dam reportedly burst on Tuesday after being at maximum capacity for weeks.

The affected communities are Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, and Bulabulin with the resulting deluge.

However, a rescue mission was launched by the military and the Red Cross association also joined the operation today.
