Kano Announces Date To Reopen Schools

The Kano government has fixed September 15th for the resumption of all boarding public and private primary, and post-primary schools in the state.

News About Nigeria understands that the resumption date marks the commencement of the first term in the 2024/2025 academic session.

This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the director of public enlightenment of the State Ministry of Education, Balarabe Kiru.

He said that pupils and students in day schools across the state will resume on Monday, September 16th, 2024.

The state government urged parents and guardians of students to be cautious of the new announcement for compliance.

Kiru advised students to be law-abiding and avoid bringing any illegal items to school, such as knives or razors.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring access to quality education and a conducive learning environment.

Recall that the state’s Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Umar Doguwa, had announced a shift on Saturday, September 7th, 2024, citing some urgent reasons for the postponement.

However, in another statement released on Saturday, the Director of Public Enlightenment of the Ministry of Education, Balarabe Kiru, quoted the Commissioner of Education, Umar Doguwa, explaining that the decision to postpone the resumption date was due to some urgent reasons.

Doguwa declined to state the exact reason for the postponement.

“I wish to inform pupils, students, and parents that the announcement made earlier for school resumption on 8 and 9 September 2024 is now being postponed due to some urgent reasons that will help improve the conducive learning atmosphere for our children,” the statement had said.

“Another date for resumption will be announced in due course,” the commissioner was quoted as saying in the statement.

The statement appealed to both students and parents/guardians to bear with any inconvenience the postponement might have caused them.
