The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has said it would withdraw from the peace accord.
News About Nigeria reports that the traditional peace accord signing ceremony is scheduled for today, ahead of the state governorship on September 21, 2024.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Jarrett Tenebe, APC chairman in Edo, said the party’s threat is coming after the police failed to arrest members of the opposition party responsible for the attack on their members.
“It has become imperative for our party, the All Progressives Congress, to tell Nigerians why we are not predisposed to be a signatory to Peace Accord,” the Edo APC chairman said.
“First, two months ago, the then Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye, told Nigerians that the command had the names of those who murdered Inspector Onuh Akor at the Benin airport.
“Inspector Akor was shot by members of Edo State Security Network when they unleashed mayhem on APC supporters who were at the airport to receive the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, who was with the APC Governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo while returning from Abuja.”
Tenebe added, “It is saddening to note that for more than two months since this ugly incident took place.”
The APC chairman accused Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, of shielding hoodlums involved in the recent attack, claiming they have been given safe haven in Government House.
He also expressed frustration that despite identification, the police have failed to arrest and prosecute those responsible for the unprovoked attack.
