A staff member of the Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan Remo, Mrs. Elizabeth Uruakpa, has been abducted by unknown gunmen, News About Nigeria reports.
This was confirmed by the university’s Director of Communication and Marketing, Dr. Joshua Suleiman, on Friday.
He, however, noted that comprehensive information on the incident is yet to be gotten, adding that motions have been put in place to solve the mystery and ensure the safe return of the staff.
Mrs. Uruakpa, who is an assistant chief nursing officer, was reportedly kidnapped on her way back from an evening church service.
It was gathered that the gunmen had laid ambush on the 66-year-old and abducted her at the entrance of her house behind the new Ilisan market in Ogun State.
A resident of the area who spoke on the condition of anonymity and witnessed the abduction noted that she was dragged down from her car and transferred to their car before the kidnappers sped away.
She pleaded for the intervention of the government, stating that it was a scary incident and such that has never happened in the neighbourhood before.
She said, “The woman was coming back from the church in the evening around 7 pm when the gunmen abducted her. I know her very well, she’s a senior nursing staff member with Babcock University Teaching Hospital and a member of the Winners’ Chapel.
“They dragged her down from her vehicle, put her in their red Toyota car and sped away. It was really like thunder lightning, and such a thing had never happened before in our neighbourhood. It is so strange and scary.”
