Unknown gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram bandits have attacked Mafa village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, killing several people and leaving shops and houses burnt, News About Nigeria reports.
The Yobe State Police Command Spokesman, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, made this known in a statement on Monday in Damaturu, the State Capital.
He disclosed that the insurgents looted and set ablaze shops and houses in the remote village, in the attack which occured on Sunday evening.
Abdulkarim stated that the incident had been reported to the command by two residents of the village, identified as Babagana Goni and Bako Ibrahim, adding that the gunmen attacked the ward on more than 50 motorcycles.
He further stated that the gunmen also dropped some flyers with Arabic inscriptions, but the number of casualties is yet to be ascertained.
He stated, “We are yet to ascertain the number of lives lost in the incident, which occurred at about 4pm on Sunday in the remote village.
“Babagana Goni and Bako Ibrahim, both Mafa residents, reported the incident to the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Station.
“Suspected Boko Haram terrorists armed with rifles and RPGs attacked Mafa Ward on more than 50 motorcycles and set ablaze many shops and houses.
“The terrorists also killed many people, but we are yet to ascertain the actual number of the casualties.”
In a similar attack, no fewer than three students of Faudiya School in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State have been confirmed dead after an attack by gunmen at the school early Friday.
