Faudiya School in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State became the target of a violent attack in the early hours of Friday morning.
The Faudiya School, known for its affiliation with the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), a prominent Shia organisation, was invaded by armed assailants, resulting in the death of three students.
Eyewitnesses report that the attack occurred at approximately 3:44 am when most residents were asleep.
The gunmen, whose identities and motives remain unclear, specifically targeted the school located in the Hausari quarters of Geidam.
A local vigilante, speaking on condition of anonymity, provided details of the assault.
“The incident occurred at around 3:44 am when the gunmen invaded Faudiya School, a well-known Shiite school in Geidam,” a source said.
“They (gunmen) attacked the school when these youths were asleep and brought them outside and shot them dead.
“There is tension and concern in the town after this incident. People are terrified over this unfortunate incident,” he said.
The vigilante also mentioned that one student who attempted to escape was injured and is currently receiving medical treatment.
The incident has left the community in a state of shock and heightened tension. Residents express deep concern over the security situation, with many fearing potential future attacks.
While initial reports suggest a possible link to insurgent activities, authorities have yet to confirm the identity or affiliation of the perpetrators.
The Yobe State Police Command, through its spokesperson, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, has acknowledged the attack but did not provide further details, citing ongoing investigations.
