Human Rights Lawyer and legal representative of the #EndBadGovernance protesters, Deji Adeyanju has vowed to sue the federal government if it fails to arraign remanded protesters by Monday.
News About Nigeria reports that the lawyer, who said this while speaking to newsmen, also revealed that the Nigerian Police failed to arraign the protesters for the fourth time on Friday.
According to Adeyanju, the failure of the police is deliberate because they want to keep the protesters in custody perpetually.
He further noted that the police do not have any tangible and solid charges against protesters.
He said, “The police do not want to charge them because they have nothing on them but they just want to keep them perpetually. We are going to sue them on Monday. They are punishing the protesters for protesting, and they are also trying to prevent future protests from holding; arresting protesters and refusing to charge them, and that also means they do not have anything tangible on them, and if they have they would have charged them since.
“Their refusal to charge them, they should release them because this is the fourth time they told us they are going to charge them, and throughout today we were all in court, a coalition of different lawyers were all in court but they failed to show up.”
He called on International communities to withdraw aid from security agencies in Nigeria because they are violating the rights of citizens.
“The Inspector General of Police, IGP, and security agencies in Nigeria are clearly violating the rights of Nigerians, development partners should call upon them to respect human rights and release protesters. International partners that are funding security agencies should withdraw aid from them if they do not respect human rights.”
