The Nigerian government has increased the fee for acquiring a Nigerian passport, News About Nigeria reports.
This change was revealed by the immigration service’s spokesperson, who explained that the goal is to uphold the passport’s high standards.
The adjustment aims to ensure the travel document’s quality and authenticity.
The new fees will be implemented starting September 1, 2024.
“Based on the review, the 32-page passport booklet with a 5-year validity previously charged at Thirty-five Thousand Naira (N35,000.00) will now be Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00) only, while the 64-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity, which was Seventy Thousand Naira (N70,000.00), will now be One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) only.
“However, the fees remain unchanged in Diaspora.
“While the Nigeria Immigration Service regrets any inconvenience this increase might cause prospective applicants, it assures Nigerians of unwavering commitment to transparency and quality service delivery at all times,” he added.
Recall that the Federal Government assured that home delivery of passports would commence in June, making it unnecessary for Nigerians to travel to immigration offices to obtain their passports.
This was announced by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during an inspection of the electronic gates at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport’s new terminal on May 24, 2024, in Abuja.
Tunji-Ojo said the delivery will not include every location to avoid overloading and damaging the system.
He said the Nigerian Immigration Service would start home delivery in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano, and Abuja.
The minister stated that for Nigerians in the diaspora, the home delivery service would initially commence in the United States and the United Kingdom, with preliminary testing to ensure its effectiveness.
