'It's Illegitimate' – Benue APC Rejects Dissolution Of State Working Committee

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State says the party will conduct its primary election for the upcoming local government elections on August 22, 2024.

News About Nigeria reports that the announcement of the APC primary for the local government polls was disclosed by its state chairman, MacDonald Ebere, on behalf of the state executive committee.

Ebere said the party had taken all necessary steps to ensure a transparent and credible process, urging the contestants to conduct themselves with dignity and respect throughout the entire process.

The party also announced that its executive members will automatically serve as delegates in the upcoming exercise.

However, many grassroots members are now calling for all registered members to be given a voice in the process.

They believed this broader participation would guarantee a more equitable and just outcome in the primaries.

Meanwhile, the party’s State Organising Secretary, Ikechukwu Sunday Umeh, has advised aspirants to engage with their local supporters.

He assured that the process would be conducted in a universally acceptable manner.

Additionally, Umeh stated that the party has a system in place to support those who don’t succeed in the primaries.

He stressed that the party’s overall success in the main elections is its top priority.

On June 20, the Chairman of the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISEC), Charles Ejiogu, announced that the local government election will take place on September 21, across 305 wards and 4,758 polling units in the state.

Ejiogu added that the ISIEC will not shirk its mandated duty of observing the primaries as duly stipulated in the Electoral Act as amended.
