Obi Cubana: Why No One In My Family Has Reached 80 Years Of Age

Popular Nigerian businessman and socialite Obinna Oyiegbu, widely known as Obi Cubana, has revealed that no member of his family has ever lived to the age of 80, News About Nigeria reports.

In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwu, Obi Cubana shared that his late mother, who passed away at the age of 79, came close to breaking what he described as a generational jinx in his family.

“In my family, nobody has lived up to 80 years, and I’m saying this for the first time. My father died at 66, my grandmother died at 75, and my grandfather died at 78, and it ran through to my mom,” he disclosed.

“We were praying for my mother to break the generational jinx and planned to throw a grand celebration if she made it to 80. Unfortunately, she passed away on December 31, at 79.”

Reflecting on the situation, Obi Cubana explained that this was the reason behind the extravagant burial ceremony they held for his mother.

“She almost broke the jinx, so we decided to honour her in a special way,” he said.

In a separate interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in May, Obi Cubana urged the federal and state governments to create a more enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

Speaking on the sidelines of a conference organised by Gavice Logistics in Victoria Island, Lagos, he emphasised the need for improved infrastructure and security to support entrepreneurship in Nigeria.

According to Obi Cubana, “good roads are crucial for the logistics business, for transporting goods from one point to another. The government should focus on building infrastructure and addressing security challenges.”

“The youths are not asking governments to buy vehicles for them but to create that enabling environment and remove all those blockages on the road.

“People buy and sell, but the multiple taxes are demoralising. If young people start getting involved in harmful activities, who do we hold responsible?”

Obi Cubana, who is also the Chairman of Cubana Group, advised the youth to remain innovative and resilient in the face of challenges.

“There are different seasons in businesses. It is up to business operators to know how to navigate each season, whether difficult or prosperous,” he said.

“Life is full of hurdles, and with each challenge faced, you must find a way to overcome it and continue your journey to success.”
