An immigration officer, Isah Mohammed, from the Zhitsu Babi area of Doko, has been killed in a violent land dispute between the Doko and Kupafu communities in Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State.

News About Nigeria reports that the conflict, which has been ongoing for years, escalated when Mohammed was reportedly attacked on his farm by individuals suspected to be from the rival Kupafu community.

According to sources, the dispute over the contested land has remained unresolved for an extended period, leading to heightened tensions between the two communities.

Residents have called on the Niger State government and police authorities to intervene swiftly to prevent further violence.

The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident.

He stated that the attack occurred on August 14, 2024, at around 11:30 AM, when Mohammed was ambushed on his farm by suspected youths from Kupafu village.

Abiodun said: “On 14/8/2024 at about 1130hrs, it was reported at Doko Div that one Isah Mohammed of Zhitsu Babi area of Doko was attacked in the farm by some suspected irate youths of Kupafu village over the lingering farmland tussle.

“The victim was attacked and left unconscious. Police operatives from Doko Division responded to the scene, but the assailants had fled before their arrival.”

Mohammed was rushed to Umaru Sanda Ndayako General Hospital in Bida, where he was later confirmed dead.

Abiodun assured that an investigation has been launched to apprehend those responsible and ensure justice is served.

Authorities are urged to address the underlying land dispute to prevent further loss of life and restore peace between the Doko and Kupafu communities.
