16 Lives Lost In Ore-Ondo Highway Crash – FRSC Faults Reckless Driving

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo sector command, says 16 persons have died and 17 were injured in a road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

News About Nigeria reports that Mayowa Odewo, spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo sector command, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

The FRSC spokesperson said only two people survived the accident without getting injured in the scene of the accident.

Odewo said 17 people were suffered varying degrees of injuries out of the 35 people involved in the crash.

He said the accident involved a Nissan commercial bus with registration number MUB 20 LG, a Nissan Micra taxi with registration number BDJ 520 YC and a private Honda Accord SUV with registration number KRD 707 ER.

He blamed the accident to the brake failure of a Mack truck with the registration number AKM 548 ZY.

Odewo said the injured victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

He added that the corpses and affected vehicles have been handed over to the police.

“The 17 injured victims had been taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention while the corpses were handed over to the police,” Odewo said in the statement.

“Accidented vehicles have been taken to Irepodun Police Station, along Agbowo-Ojoo Road, by the police.”

The FRSC spokesperson stated that no victim was saved by seat belt or other defensive gadgets.

He urged motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations as well as adhere to all traffic cautions on the road to prevent avoidable crashes.
