NELFUND Expands Student Loan Scheme To 40 More Institutions

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has issued a warning about a fake website using its name to scam people seeking visa sponsorships.

News About Nigeria reports that NELFUND said the website falsely claims to offer foreign visa sponsorship, but it has no connection to it.

The fake website is being promoted on Facebook and redirects users to a different site called “(link unavailable).”

NELFUND’s head of PR, Nasir Ayitogo, confirmed that the website is using NELFUND’s name and logo without permission.

He said NELFUND’s purpose is to provide educational loans to Nigerian students studying within the country.

Ayitogo said the organisation does not offer visa sponsorships or related services, and any claims suggesting otherwise are false.

He clarified that NELFUND has no affiliation with such a website or any similar scheme.

“NELFUND’s mission is solely to provide educational loans to eligible Nigerian students to further their academic pursuits within Nigeria,” Ayitogo said.

“NELFUND does not offer visa sponsorships or related services, and any claims to the contrary are entirely false and misleading.”

Ayitogo added that the fraudulent website was using the NELFUND logo without authorisation to deceive the public.

He said the fund strongly advises Nigerians to refrain from engaging with the site or providing any personal information.

Ayitogo said NELFUND is taking steps to address the situation, having reported the matter to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.

“We urge the public to rely solely on the information provided through NELFUND’s official channels, including the website, www.nelf.gov.ng and verified social media accounts,” the PR head said.

“Any communication from NELFUND will be through these channels, and the public is encouraged to verify any suspicious information directly with us.”
