Boat Accident Kills Four In Sokoto 

Four people have lost their lives in a boat accident at Dundaye community in Wamakko Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State, News About Nigeria reports. 

This was disclosed by the Head of the Sokoto Field Operation Office, of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Aliyu Kafindangi, on Tuesday.

He revealed that the sad incident happened on Sunday evening, adding that the bodies were discovered on Monday.

He stated that a combined rescue team from NEMA, the Nigerian Red Cross, Fire Services, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and local divers had led to the discovery of the bodies.

He added that 19 people were rescued from the accident, with one still missing, totalling a total of 24 people who were involved in the boat mishap.

”Based on the investigation, 24 persons were involved in the incident, but 19 of them have been rescued.

”One dead body was recovered on Sunday and yesterday we recovered an additional three, bringing the number of deaths to four.

”One person is still missing, but search and rescue is still ongoing,” he stated.

He also expressed his gratitude to the state, local governments, and members of the community for their support so far towards the success of the rescue operations.

He also urged those who use the water as a means of transportation to be careful and tread with caution, especially during this period of the rainy season.

According to him, human life is more important than anything else.

Boat mishaps have also been on the rise this period, with several cases of boat accidents being reported.
