In the early hours of Monday, a dynamite explosion struck the secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
News About Nigeria gathered that the blast, which occurred around 1 a.m., caused huge damage to the building located along the GRA axis of the state capital.
According to an APP official, who requested anonymity, the attack is believed to be politically motivated.
“This is politically motivated, and there’s no doubt about it. The APP is rapidly growing in the state, and this attack is an attempt to intimidate us. We urge the police to investigate this incident and bring those responsible to justice,” the official said.
Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion shattered the building’s windows, doors, and other fittings, leaving extensive damage.
The scene was marked by debris from the blast, and some party members were seen assessing the damage and discussing the incident.
The explosion comes amid speculation that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, may defect to the APP along with his supporters, following alleged tensions with his predecessor and political mentor, Nyesom Wike, over control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
