WAEC: Technical Glitch Caused Withheld Results In Ogun,

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has withheld the results of over 200,000 candidates due to alleged exam malpractice.

News About Nigeria reports that this information was communicated after the release of the 2024 SSCE results, which saw over 1.8 million candidates sit for the exam.

The body said that out of the total candidates, nearly 93% have had all their papers released, while around 7% still have some subjects under review.

This represents a decrease in withheld results compared to the previous year.

The council reported that over 73% of candidates achieved credits in at least five subjects, with or without English and math.

Additionally, around 72% obtained credits in five subjects, including English and math.

Compared to last year, there was a huge drop in the pass rate for candidates who achieved credits in five subjects, including English and math.

The 2024 WASSCE results showed a 7.69% decrease in this category compared to 2023.

The Head of the Nigerian National Office (HNO) of the council, Dr. Amos Dangut, said the council will investigate the actual cause of the decreased performance.

The HNO also stated that the results of candidates who are sponsored by states indebted to the council will not be released until payment is made.

“We appeal to the concerned to do so to enable the affected schools/candidates to access their results.”

He stated that the increasing use of cell phones in the examination hall, in spite of the existing ban, and organised cheating in some schools are other nagging issues, adding that all the cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate committee of the council for consideration and final decisions.

“The committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates through their various schools in due course. Candidates affected by these decisions can now call for redress of their malpractice cases if they so wish via

The HNO said that as the results are being uploaded on the results website, candidates should, after checking the results online, apply for their digital certificate, which will be released 48 hours later.

“Candidates who have fulfilled their financial obligations to the council can access their results on the council’s results website: www.waecdirect.org, within the next 12 hours. Copies of the Result Listing will be sent to schools shortly,” he said.
