NYSC Announces Release of Call-Up Letters for Batch 'B' Stream II

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially refuted claims circulating on social media that it directed corps members to upgrade their accounts in anticipation of receiving a new minimum wage of N70,000, News About Nigeria reports.

In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja, Eddy Megwa, the NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, dismissed the rumours as completely false.

He clarified that the NYSC has not received any instructions from the relevant government agencies responsible for wage adjustments and therefore has not issued any directives regarding the minimum wage.

“Corps members, parents, and the public should be aware that no such directive has been issued by NYSC because there has been no communication from the appropriate authorities concerning wage matters,” Megwa stated.

He further stated that corps members are familiar with the official channels and methods of communication within the NYSC and should disregard any unauthorised information.

Megwa also cautioned bloggers and social media influencers against spreading unverified information about NYSC affairs, warning that such actions could mislead the public and cause unnecessary confusion.

The rumours about the N70,000 minimum wage for corps members emerged following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s signing of the new minimum wage act into law.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio had announced that the new minimum wage would apply to federal, state, and local government workers, as well as employees in the private sector and individual employers.

Akpabio noted that N70,000 is the minimum, not the maximum, and that employers with the means could choose to pay more.

“No Nigerian worker will be paid less than N70,000 from today,” Akpabio declared, expressing his belief that the new wage policy would bring relief to workers across the nation.
