NELFUND: No Student Loans For South-East Students As Institutions Delay Verification

The Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced a significant milestone in its mission to support students struggling with tertiary education financing across the nation.

News About Nigeria reports that under the leadership of its Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, NELFUND has received the highest number of student loan applications within a 24-hour period since the launch of its portal on May 25, 2024.

This is contained in a statement by Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Corporate Communications of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

Oluwatuyi said that within the last 24 hours, the fund recorded a total of 9,687 student registrations, of which 7,975 were completed loan applications.

This surge in interest highlights the critical role NELFUND plays in enabling access to higher education for students facing financial challenges.

The high number of applications confirms that financial constraints are a significant issue for many aspiring higher education students, reinforcing the importance of NELFUND’s work in providing necessary support to Nigerian youth.

“Since the portal’s opening, NELFUND has recorded a steady and consistent influx of applications, underscoring the pressing need for financial assistance among Nigerian students,” the statement reads.

“The scheme urged all students experiencing financial difficulties to take advantage of this opportunity provided by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Eligible students are encouraged to apply for the loan through the NELFUND portal, which offers a streamlined, user-friendly application process.”

Recall that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) announced on Monday that it has distributed a monthly stipend of N20,000 to 20,371 students across six universities for July.

The benefiting universities include Bayero University Kano, Federal University Dutsin-Ma, the University of Ilorin, the University of Benin, the University of Ibadan, and the University of Maiduguri.
