Kogi PDP Warns Senator Lah Over Leadership Transition Plot

The Kogi State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong warning to Senator Danjuma Lah, cautioning him to reassess his actions or face potential backlash from party loyalists.

News About Nigeria reports that the party criticised Lah’s alleged attempts to orchestrate a leadership transition that would benefit former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye, whom they deem the “most ineffectual politician” in the state.

In a statement released by Alhaji Ibrahim Dansofo, spokesperson for the PDP Elders Council, the party lamented its diminished influence and relegation to a third-tier party in Kogi due to its subpar performance in recent elections.

The Elders Council vehemently opposed any attempts to hand over leadership to Melaye, stating that such moves would be met with fierce resistance.

The party claimed to be aware of Lah’s intentions, accusing him of attempting to create a faction within the party that could lead to legal disputes.

The party highlighted the success of the recent congress held on July 28 and 29, calling on the National Working Committee, led by Chairman Iliya Damagum and Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to restrain Lah, whom they claim is acting as a proxy for Melaye.

The statement stressed Melaye’s poor electoral performance, noting his failure to secure votes even in his own ward during the last gubernatorial election.

This, they argue, shows his inability to lead the party effectively.

The Kogi PDP lamented the mass exodus of members from the party, particularly in light of the upcoming local government elections, where they have seen little interest in party affiliation.

The party emphasised the need for urgent restructuring to regain its footing in the state, citing the lack of serious candidates stepping forward to purchase PDP nomination forms.

The statement concluded by reiterating the party’s resolve to resist any attempts to undermine its unity and effectiveness.
