#EndBadGovernance Protest: Father Of Kaduna 16-Year-Old Boy Killed By Soldier Gets N300,000 Compensation

The father of the 16-year-old Ismail Mohammed who was shot dead yesterday (Tuesday) by the Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna state, has been given N300,000 as compensation.

News About Nigeria earlier reported that Ismail was killed by a soldier who fired a bullet at him while trying to enforce the curfew in the area.

Following the tragedy, the Nigerian Army, in a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, claimed responsibility for the incident, revealing that the soldier is now in detention for proper investigation.

In the statement, Nwachukwu explained that the troops had received a distress call that some hoodlums gathered in the Samaru area of Zaria in large numbers, burning tyres on the road and pelting stones at security personnel.

The troops then immediately mobilised and arrived at the scene to disperse the mob and enforce the curfew imposed by the state government.

However, upon getting there, the soldier fired the shot as a warning to scare the hoodlums away, but it unfortunately led to the death of Mohammed.

The Army PRO also disclosed that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, who was saddened by the unfortunate incident, had sent a high-powered delegation led by the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Maj.-Gen. Lander Saraso, to visit and condole with the family of the deceased.

However, in a recent development, an X user, @AliyuKwarbai on Wednesday revealed that the Army compensated Ismail’s family with N300,000 for his life.

Sharing pictures of the father holding the compensation, Aliyu wrote, “The father of 16 years old boy (Ismail), who was killed by the Nigerian Army under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday, in Samaru Zaria, Kaduna state has received N300,000. N300,000 for life’s compensation of life?”
