Protest: Nasarawa Police Prosecute 40 For Looting

Men of the Nigerian Police attacked peaceful protesters in the Berger area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, with tear gas on Friday.

News About Nigeria gathered that a detachment of fully armed men of the FCT Police Command forcefully dispersed the protesters around Berger Bridge by shooting canisters and tear gas at them.

Confirming this, a now-viral video on the internet shows social media activist, Verydarkman, and other Nigerians in tears after they were attacked with tear gas by the police.

According to Verydarkman, the police started using force and throwing teargas on them even while they were peaceful in their demands for an end to hunger and bad governance in Nigeria.

Recall that an Abuja high court had earlier granted an injunction seeking to confine protesters to the MKO Abiola National Stadium.

Also, despite a plea by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday night that the protesters should obey the court order, the leaders of the protesters say they had not been served with a copy of the said order and would not retreat from hitting the street to air their grievances.

Following this, the nation’s capital is currently under heavy security as different security agencies are on ground to enforce law and orderliness.

Recall that there were reports of violence in various parts of the FCT and some states in the country yesterday as some protesters clashed with security agencies.

Also, in places like Kano, Kaduna, and Yobe, the protest was hijacked by hoodlums who vandalised government properties and also looted from both the government and private individuals.
