Nigerian Police Successfully Detonate IED In Lagos

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has announced the successful discovery and detonation of an improvised explosive device (IED) along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way in Ikeja, Lagos.

News About Nigeria gathered that the incident occurred on July 31, 2024, and was handled by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Units of the NPF.

Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi praised the EOD personnel for their expertise and swift response, which ensured the safety of the area and its residents.

The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or objects to the nearest police station.

Citizens are advised not to touch or move unfamiliar or suspicious objects.

Instead, they should maintain a safe distance and notify the authorities immediately.

The NPF said it is committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens and is actively investigating the source of the IED, aiming to dismantle any further threats and apprehend those responsible.

The police called on the public to be vigilant and report any unusual packages or parcels in their vicinity to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“It’s pertinent to state that the intentions of the criminally minded individuals, who acted like terrorists for planting the IEDs at that strategic location, were purely to destroy houses, facilities and innocent citizens who may transverse along the route where the items were recovered.

“It is not out of point, however, to be vigilant to detect such unusual packages or parcels in our vicinity to avert any ugly incidences,” the statement partly read.
