Tinubu's Intervention Will Discourage Niger Delta Youths From Protests - Minister

The Minister of Niger Delta Development, Abubakar Momoh, stated on Wednesday that President Bola Tinubu’s efforts will discourage young people from the region from participating in nationwide protests.

While acknowledging that protesting is a legitimate right, Momoh noted that it may not have the most positive impact on the nation’s economy.

Speaking to State House Correspondents, Momoh highlighted President Tinubu’s unprecedented intervention in infrastructure development, despite limited resources.

News About Nigeria reports that he expressed surprise that many Nigerians, particularly youths, are unaware of the various programs implemented to alleviate their suffering.

In the Niger Delta Region, Momoh mentioned that President Tinubu has made significant contributions, making protests against bad governance unnecessary.

The region has seen numerous projects executed within the past year, surpassing previous efforts.

Additionally, various welfare programs are ongoing, including empowerment initiatives, which have benefitted women and youths.

President Tinubu has also approved funds to address flooding and provide palliatives for the Niger Delta people.

Momoh urged youths to exercise their right to protest responsibly, without causing destruction, and to take advantage of government-initiated programs.

He stated that the country’s future relies on the constructive engagement of its young people.

Momoh added, “On the issue of protest, I don’t think there is anybody including the President of this country who would think protesting is a sin. But what we are saying is that in the name of protest, do not come and cause mayhem or destroy the properties of innocent citizens. Do not come and cause mayhem because the freedom you have to protest has a limit. You do not have the freedom to protest and cause destruction.

“So the youths, the country is your own, the future is your own. If you destroy what you will live upon in the future then it becomes a serious problem.

“I will appeal to the youth of this country to take advantage of the numerous youth programmes initiated by this government, take advantage of them.”
