Last Performance Video Of Onyeka Onwenu Emerges Online

As Nigerians continue to mourn the passing of beloved singer and actress Onyeka Onwenu, a video capturing her final performance has surfaced online, evoking deep emotions among fans and admirers.

News About Nigeria earlier reported that the 72-year-old artist died on Tuesday night after performing at a birthday celebration for Stella Okoli, the owner of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, on Banana Island, Lagos.

According to reports, Onwenu collapsed shortly after her performance and was rushed to a hospital on Victoria Island, where she was pronounced dead.

Her last video shows Onyeka Onwenu singing her hit song “One Love,” engaging the audience with her soulful voice and graceful movements.

The guests, including notable dignitaries such as former presidential candidate Peter Obi, were visibly moved, unaware that they were witnessing her final moments.

In response to Onwenu’s passing, President Bola Tinubu offered his heartfelt condolences to her family and the nation.

Through his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, the President praised Onwenu’s extensive contributions to music, film, journalism, activism, and politics.

He highlighted her enduring legacy, particularly the iconic song “One Love,” which became a symbol of unity and togetherness in the 1990s.

President Tinubu also acknowledged Onwenu’s impactful collaboration with King Sunny Ade on the family planning campaign “Wait for Me” in the 1980s, emphasising her commitment to using her platform for social causes.

He celebrated her exceptional talent, versatility, and dedication to her craft, noting that her work brought joy and inspiration to countless individuals.

The President extended his sympathies to the entertainment industry, the government of Imo State, and Onwenu’s fans, acknowledging the profound loss of a true Nigerian legend.
