The National Youth Stakeholders Forum (NYSF), a unified voice for Nigerian youth, has taken a stand against a planned protest scheduled for August 1, citing concerns over potential political manipulation and instability.
News About Nigeria reports that the NYSF Vice Chairman, Hon Chinazam Ike, disclosed the disapproval at a press conference in Abuja on Saturday.
Ike said the forum has chosen to engage in constructive dialogue with the government to address the pressing issues of economic hardship and fuel scarcity.
He emphasised the forum’s commitment to promoting the welfare of Nigerian youth and holding the government accountable for its actions.
The vice chairman expressed concerns that the planned protest could be exploited by desperate politicians seeking to create chaos and undermine the nation’s stability.
He added that the NYSF has called for the immediate restoration of Nigeria’s four refineries to full capacity, ensuring a steady supply of affordable and sustainable fuel.
This demand is part of the forum’s broader agenda to address systemic anomalies and promote rapid social and economic development in Nigeria.
In his word, “the NYSF declared its unanimous decision to reject the proposed protest and instead pursue negotiations with the government.”
“This decision was made after careful consideration of the potential consequences and a thorough assessment of the nation’s past, present, and future prospects.
The NYSF said it is confident that its decision will ultimately benefit the nation and its youth, even as it continues to push for meaningful change through constructive engagement with the government.
The forum stated that by harnessing the energy and wisdom of both youth and elders, it aims to empower young people to overcome systemic barriers and drive national growth and development.
