On Saturday, the House of Representatives threatened to call for the dismissal of the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, over his alleged involvement in the delay Dangote Refinery is facing.
The Deputy Speaker of the House, Philip Agbese, who made the threat while speaking to newsmen in Abuja, noted that they would be forced to make the move if Kyari continued to work against the smooth operation of the Dangote Refinery.
News About Nigeria reports that the Benue lawmaker also expressed support for the call for the dismissal of the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed.
He noted that the NNPCL and the NMDPRA have demonstrated their intention to work against the Dangote Refinery.
The All Progressives Congress legislator said, “We have been seeing many demarketing campaigns to discredit the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, and given the negative impact of this, which has caused panic in the country. It is on record that the House directed the President to sack the NMDPRA’s CEO. The House of Representatives will not hesitate to call for the dismissal of Mele Kyari if the attempt to destroy the refinery project, a national asset, does not stop immediately.
“The bigger aspect of our concern is that there are concerns that false narratives are being peddled by certain interests that are bent on importing dirty fuels into the country. As a proactive institution, committed to the wellbeing of the nation and Nigerians, the position of the House is to investigate the allegations. So the House will also not hesitate to call for the sack of Mr. Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, if need be.”
