On Wednesday, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) tasked Nigerian youths to shelve the nationwide planned protest against economic hardship and bad governance.
The APC NWC called for an emergency meeting with all its state chairmen to discuss ways of stopping the protests against the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
News About Nigeria reports that this was made public by the National Secretary of the party, Ajibola Basiru, who revealed that the decision was taken at the 153rd meeting of the NWC that was held on Wednesday in Abuja.
Basiru noted that the APC NWC joins the President in appealing to the protest organisers to accept dialogue as the FG is willing and ready to meet their demands.
He said, “The NWC also noted that since coming on board in 2023, the Government met quite a number of challenges, especially economic challenges, and Mr President is gradually implementing programmes and policies that would in the nearest future, bring succour and relief to the citizens. The meeting also highlighted that most of the economic challenges are global issues, and can only be addressed after thorough brain-storming.
“The NWC also noted that some of the issues highlighted by the protestants are political, while others are constitutional matters that can only be addressed through the amendment of the constitution, which is ongoing at the National Assembly. The meeting, therefore, urged all those planning the protests to have confidence in Mr President’s unrelentless efforts at repositioning the economy, while assuring Nigerians that the challenges will sooner or later come to pass. The NWC further called for an emergency meeting of Chairmen of the APC in all the 36 states of the federation for further discussions.”
