Wike Says He'll Transform Abuja Before 2027

On Tuesday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), kicked against the proposed nationwide protest against hardship and bad governance in Nigeria, News About Nigeria reports.

The Minister alleged that the protest, which is slated for August 1, 2024, is political and targeted against the President Bola Tinubu-led government.

The former Rivers State governor said this while inspecting the Apo-Karshi road, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

“You can see that the planned protest is political and nothing more. We need to be patient with this government.”

The minister urged Nigerians to be patient, as rebuilding a nation cannot be done overnight, as many people want.

He also assured that the Tinubu-led government is doing everything possible to deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians in the shortest time possible.

Wike further stated that since the inception of Tinubu’s administration, Nigerians have witnessed positive changes in governance.

Similarly, President Tinubu has called on Nigerian youths to shelve the planned protest, noting that his administration is willing to hear them out and to also work on rebuilding the nation.

The president assured the youth that his administration will work diligently to ensure that they address all the concerns of Nigerians.

The President said this through the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, after a meeting at the presidential villa on Tuesday.

Idris said, “We discussed the issue of the country generally and Mr. President has asked me to again inform Nigerians that he listens to them, especially the young people who are trying to protest, Mr. President is listening to them, he takes what they say seriously and he is working assiduously to ensure that this country is good, not just for today, but also for the future.

“The issue of the planned protest, Mr. President does not see any need for that, he’s asked them to shelve that plan and he’s asked them to await the government’s response to all their pleas. He has listened to them, like I said, and a lot is happening.”
