The Akwa Ibom Police Command has successfully freed 10 expectant mothers from a clandestine facility operated by a 56-year-old woman, Eunice Eze, who allegedly specialised in illegal baby trafficking.

News About Nigeria reports that this breakthrough was announced by the Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, during a press briefing at the Police Headquarters in Uyo.

According to Ayilara, Eze’s arrest on July 15 was made possible through meticulous intelligence gathering.

He revealed that Eze, who ran a baby factory in Owerri’s World Bank estate, had a network that stretched to Akwa Ibom, where she orchestrated the theft of babies and pregnant women with the aid of an accomplice, Ability Tom.

In a separate operation, the police apprehended a notorious kidnapper responsible for multiple abductions and murders in the state.

A cache of weapons, including AK-47 and G3 rifles, was recovered from a private mortuary in Ekeya, Okobo Local Government Area, which served as the kidnapper’s secret arsenal.

Ayilara expressed gratitude to the state government, security agencies, and the public for their invaluable support and timely information, which led to the successful arrests.

He emphasized the command’s commitment to fostering stronger collaborations to ensure a safer and more peaceful Akwa Ibom.

Ayilara thanked the state government for their support, sister security agencies and good-spirited members of the public, whose credible and timely information led to the arrests.

He said the command looks forward to a more formidable collaboration from all as it strives to keep the state of Akwa Ibom safer and more peaceful.
