High Cost Of Living Affecting Nigerians – Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has extended an apology to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, for his recent comments.

News About Nigeria reports that Akpabio had cautioned Akpoti-Uduaghan against speaking without permission, likening her behaviour to a “night club”.

This remark was made after Akpoti-Uduaghan spoke without recognition from the Senate President.

A similar incident had occurred earlier, where Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the FCT, was shut down for protesting her exclusion from key decisions.

Akpabio, addressing the Senate on Tuesday, emphasised his respect for women and acknowledged the backlash he faced on social media.

He clarified that his intention was not to demean Akpoti-Uduaghan and apologised for any harm caused.

The Senate President also addressed the criticism from the women’s group, Voices for Inclusion and Equity for Women (VIEW), who condemned his alleged disrespect towards female senators.

Akpabio’s apology was accompanied by a denial of claims that he has multiple girlfriends, affirming his commitment to his wife.

He urged social media users to exercise decorum and refrain from spreading harmful content.

In his words: “I will not intentionally denigrate any woman and I always pray that God will uplift women,” he said.

“Distinguished Senator Natasaha, I want to apologise to you.

“The interest shown in the social media shows that we have enemies. I felt I should tender a public apology to you. I do not mean any harm. People should concentrate on things that will move this country forward

“Social media handlers should practice with decorum. We won’t out of anger regulate social media.”
