The House of Representatives Speaker, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, and other lawmakers paid a visit to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos on Saturday.
News About Nigeria reports that there visit was aimed at demonstrating their support for the project and investigating the claims of conspiracy by international oil companies against the refinery.
During their visit, the lawmakers were warmly received by Aliko Dangote, Africa’s wealthiest individual and President of Dangote Group, along with top executives of the refineries.
They embarked on a comprehensive tour of the 650,000 barrels per day refinery and received a detailed briefing on the project’s progress.
The visit is particularly timely, as the refinery is scheduled to commence the supply of petrol next month.
However, the refinery is currently facing challenges in accessing crude oil needed for production, amidst allegations of conspiracy by international oil companies.
In response to these challenges, the House of Representatives has resolved to establish an ad hoc committee to investigate the allegations and probe the inability of NNPC Limited to acquire the 20 per cent stake in the Dangote refinery.
This is not the first time federal lawmakers have visited the refinery.
In June, Senate President Godswill Akpabio led the leadership of the Senate on a tour of the refinery, praising the project and pledging support for it.
The “whole Nigeria couldn’t make refineries function in Kaduna, Port Harcourt, and Warri, but Dangote and his team have proven that it is possible to dream and achieve it in Nigeria,” Akpabio said during his visit, highlighting the significance of the project.
The Dangote refinery is a vital project for Nigeria, and its success is crucial for the country’s economic development.
