The Edo state deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, has said that he is already an unofficial member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The reinstated deputy governor said this while speaking to newsmen on Friday.
He explained that the only thing still keeping him in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was because he was yet to officially dump the ruling party in Edo since he is still the deputy governor of the state.
Giving details on why he publicly declared his support for the APC candidate in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state when he was featured on Arise TV’s morning show, Shaibu stated that everything in him has left the PDP, including his spirit.
He further noted that everyone in the PDP now has the right to support any candidates of their choice, adding that the constitution also allows for that.
He said, “In the PDP now, everybody can support whoever they like. On the issue of supporting a candidate, the constitution guarantees that you can support who you like and you can belong to any political party.”
The embattled deputy governor also disclosed that since the political crisis in the state started, he has called the governor, Godwin Obaseki, up to 101 times but he has refused to pick up his calls or return them.
News About Nigeria recalls that Shaibu who was impeached by the Edo state House of Assembly on Monday, April 8, 2024, on the grounds of misconduct was reinstated by a Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, July, 17.
Delivering judgement on the matter, Justice James Omotosho ordered that Shaibu be reinstated to office because the Edo State House of Assembly failed to comply with due process in impeaching him.
The court also set aside the appointment of the new Deputy Governor of the state, Omobayo Godwins who replaced Shaibu.
