The Federal Government is set to introduce a new curriculum for secondary schools in the country, News About Nigeria reports.
The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, disclosed this while speaking at the ongoing 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) policy meeting in Abuja.
He noted that the new curriculum will be introduced to the schools by September 2024.
He also disclosed that the exercise has been ongoing for the past year and a stakeholder meeting will be held on August 6, 2024.
“We are working hard to ensure that a new curriculum is introduced for secondary schools by September.
“It is our plan that by September, this programme will be implemented in all schools, public and private,” the minister stated.
Stakeholders and attendees at the ongoing policy meeting have also protested as the Minister of Education declared that only candidates who have attained the age of 18 would henceforth be given admission into tertiary institutions in the country.
However, despite the protest, the minister did not back down from his decision, as he explained that the decision was already a federal government policy.
According to him, the action is aimed at addressing some of the major problems facing tertiary institutions, especially universities.
Recall that the National Senior Secondary School Education Commission decried the deplorable state of senior secondary schools in the country and called for collaboration to overcome some of the challenges bedevilling the secondary level of education in the country.
The commission listed some of the sector’s challenges, including the infrastructural deficit, unqualified teachers, obsolete curriculum, and deplorable libraries and laboratories.
