On Thursday, the Kano state governor, Abba Yusuf, commiserated with the state’s Commissioner for Higher Education, Yusuf Kofar-Mata, who lost his daughter, older sister, and sister-in-law in a fire incident on Wednesday.
News About Nigeria reported that the fire that killed the three of them had engulfed the commissioner’s residence in the Kofar-Mata metropolis of the state during the early hours of Wednesday while the family was asleep.
The commissioner announced their tragic demise in a post on his Facebook page, where he also noted that their burial was the same as yesterday (Wednesday).
In response to the tragedy, Governor Yusuf, in a statement released by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, described the incident as “devastating.”
The statement partly reads, “We received with shock the sad news of the fire incident that led to the loss of three siblings of one of us, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata at his residence in Kofar Mata quarters within Kano metropolitan. It is indeed sad, heartbreaking, and an unfortunate incident that will linger in our memory for a very long time in view of its devastating consequences.”
Governor Yusuf also on behalf of the government, state executive council members, and the people of the state, extended his heartfelt condolence to the commissioner and his family.
The Governor further prayed that Allah grant eternal rest to the departed souls, prevent future occurrence of such a disaster, and also grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
In the statement, it was also revealed that Governor Yusuf had on Wednesday led members of the state executive council, alongside other dignitaries, to the funeral rites of the victims at Kofar Mata quarters in Kano State.
