Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, a former governorship candidate, is currently engaged in a private meeting with Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja.

News About Nigeria reports that the meeting has in attendance of several high-ranking APC officials from Anambra State, including the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye, Anambra APC Chairman Chief Basil Ejidike, and Deputy National Organising Secretary Nze Chidi Duru.

This gathering comes on the heels of the APC’s recent announcement to intensify efforts in capturing Abia and Enugu States in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

While the meeting’s agenda remains undisclosed, sources close to the matter suggest that the emergency consultative session aims to formally adopt Ubah as the APC’s governorship candidate in the next election.

According to a source who spoke to Punch, “The ruling party has been searching for a prominent politician to challenge the APGA government in Anambra, and it appears they have settled on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.”

This development follows Ubah’s defection from the Young Progressive Party (YPP) to the APC in October 2023.

In a letter read at the Senate Chamber, Ubah cited insurmountable internal disagreements within the YPP as the reason for his switch.

The meeting’s outcome may significantly impact the political landscape of Anambra State, particularly with the APC’s renewed efforts to expand its presence in the Southeast.

As the APC seeks to bolster its ranks with influential figures like Ubah, the stage is set for a intriguing political dynamic in the region.
