NAF Confirms On-Track Delivery Dates For AH-1Z Attack Helicopters

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that the delivery schedule for the AH-1Z attack helicopters, purchased by the Federal Government, remains on track, News About Nigeria reports.

This assurance was given during a recent Programme Management Review (PMR) meeting.

In a statement by Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, the progress was discussed when the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal Sayo Olatunde, met with officials from the United States Government and Bell Textron Company.

The five-day meeting commenced on July 16, 2024, at NAF Headquarters.

“The primary goal of this meeting is to review the progress made in the manufacture of the aircraft, ensure a smooth transition, and provide technical guidance to the NAF,” the statement read.

“This collaboration highlights the strong partnership between Nigeria and the US in enhancing Nigeria’s air power capabilities.”

During the meeting, Air Vice Marshal Olatunde emphasised the significance of the AH-1Z attack helicopters in boosting NAF’s close air support and ground attack capabilities.

He said that the helicopters will enhance NAF’s firepower and operational capabilities, especially in counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations.

Kevin Stone, the US Government AH-1Z Programme Management Office team leader, noted that the collaboration between the NAF and the US military demonstrates a shared commitment to regional stability, peace, and security.

He added that the successful implementation of the PMR would impact Nigeria’s ability to address security challenges and ensure the safety of its citizens.
