Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, supervised a joint venture partnership between IBILE Holdings Limited and CIG Motors Company Limited on Monday.

The signing and flag-off ceremony was done at the Government House in Alausa, Ikeja, marking a major milestone in the state’s efforts to revamp its transportation system.

Sanwo-Olu said that in the coming weeks, the state is expected to receive 2,000 units of the new vehicles in the first phase, with the remaining vehicles to be delivered in tranches.

He added that 1,000 of the new fleet will consist of electric vehicles, demonstrating the state’s commitment to reducing its dependence on fossil fuels and minimising its carbon footprint.

“Our new fleet will have 1,000 electric vehicles, demonstrating a commitment to reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and pruning the carbon footprint.”

The governor stated that the partnership extends beyond e-hailing taxi services, also initiating carpooling services, chauffeur services, and tech-driven logistics services.

He said the collaboration with CIG Motors has been mutually beneficial, and the state encourages other private players in the transportation sector to develop schemes that enhance mobility in Lagos.

“Our relationship with CIG has been mutually beneficial, and we urge other private players in the transportation sector to key into the market and initiate schemes that would enhance mobility in the state.

“We are interested in seeing Lagos live up to its potential as a city operating an international standard, environmentally sustainable, and smart mobility system deserving of its status,” he said.
