NANS Calls For Probe Into Plateau Building Collapse

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for a probe into the root cause of the school building collapse in Jos, Plateau State, News About Nigeria reports.

The National President, Pedro C. Obi, made this call in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.

He noted that the incident was caused by negligence and complacency, adding that it has plagued the country for a long time now.

Obi stated that the continuous ignorance of the dilapidated conditions of school buildings is a big risk on the part of school management and demanded that an investigation be carried out to determine the cause.

He expressed condolences to the families affected by the tragedy and urged the government to hold those responsible for the collapse accountable.

He also emphasised the need for stringent enforcement of building codes and regular inspections of school facilities to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“This tragic incident is a stark reminder of the negligence and complacency that has plagued our educational system for far too long.

“We cannot continue to risk the lives of our students by ignoring the dilapidated state of our school infrastructure.

“We demand a thorough and transparent investigation into the cause of this collapse, and those found responsible must be held accountable.

“We cannot afford to wait for another tragedy to strike before we take action. The time to act is now,” he stated.

He concluded by urging the government to prioritise the safety and well-being of students by ensuring that all educational institutions undergo integrity tests.
