Protest: Kaduna Won't Tolerate Anarchy, Security Council Says

Former Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) leader, Takai Shamang, who was abducted on July 5, has been released, News About Nigeria reports.

The 78-year-old was taken from his home in Biniki village, Kaura Local Government of Kaduna State, by kidnappers.

The news of Shamang’s release was confirmed by his daughter, Mrs. Grace Abbin, in a WhatsApp post.

“To God Almighty be the Glory. My family lacks words to appreciate every one of you for the safe return of our daddy, comrade Elder Takai A. Shamang,” she stated.

However, the details surrounding his release, including whether a ransom was paid, were not disclosed.

This abduction marks the second attempt on Shamang’s life within two years. He is currently serving as the President and Founder of Gantys Aid for Widows, Orphans and Needy (GAWON) Foundation.

Kaduna State has seen a surge in kidnappings recently, with several high-profile figures, including clergy and journalists, falling victim.

In related news, two journalists, Alhaji AbdulGafar Alabelewe of The Nation newspaper and AbdulRaheem Aodu of Blueprint newspaper, along with their family members, have been released after being kidnapped on July 7, 2024, in the Danhonu community of Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna.

The bandits had earlier released AbdulRaheem’s wife while keeping the journalists and other family members captive.

AbdulGafar’s elder brother, Barrister Mas’ud Mobolaji Alabelewe, confirmed their release, stating that the freed victims are now receiving treatment in Abuja.

“To God be the glory, our loved ones have been released. It was a week of terror for the whole family, but we thank Allah that they have been released. We want to thank everyone that supported us with prayers through our trying times,” he said.
