President Tinubu Appoints Seven Key Officials To Humanitarian Ministry

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bashir Lado, a former senator representing Kano Central, as his special adviser on senate matters.

News About Nigeria reports that this was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson.

He said Tinubu expects him to leverage his experience to foster better collaboration between the executive and legislative.

Ngelale described the former Kano senator as an experienced politician and businessman.

The statement reads: “President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Senator Bashir Lado Mohammed as Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters (Office of the President).

“Mr. Mohammed is an experienced politician and businessman from Kano State.

“He is a former Senator representing Kano Central and former Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

“The President expects that the new Special Adviser on Senate Matters will deploy his immense experience for enhanced synergy between the Executive and the Legislature and for improved government performance.”

In 2023, Lado was the convener of the 72 non-serving senators in the All Progressive Congress (APC), who endorsed Godswill Akpabio, former minister of Niger Delta affairs, as president of the 10th senate.

Lado had said Barau Jibrin, senator representing Kano north, – a contender for the senate president position – should be given the deputy senate president position.

“We, in the spirit of equity, fairness, political expediency and following extensive consultations with stakeholders, hereby express our total support for the zoning of the position of the president of the 10th senate, to the south-south geo-political zone of Nigeria,” he said.

“We also affirm our unfettered support for the position of the president of the 10th Senate who also doubles as the chairman of the national assembly to be conferred on His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, CON.
