The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the rescue of three persons from a building that collapsed in Abuja, on Monday evening, News About Nigeria reports.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday.
She noted that the people were rescued by operatives of the Command from the collapsed building at Unity House, Area 11 by Nkwere Street, around 8:40 p.m.
She disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, had promptly responded to the distress call and led a team of officers to the scene, where they cordoned off the area and facilitated the rescue of three victims.
The PPRO also stated that the victims were rushed to the hospital for medical attention, adding that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and FCT Development Control took charge of the scene for further management.
According to her, no fatalities have been reported, but the cause of the collapse is yet to be determined.
“The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, promptly moved to the scene with multiple patrol teams as first responders to cordon off the area for possible rescue.
“Three (3) victims were successfully evacuated from the collapsed building and rushed to the hospital for medical care.
“The attention of the National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria and FCT Development Control have been drawn to the situation, and their personnel have taken charge of the area for robust management of the scene. Further developments will be appropriately communicated in due course,” she stated.
