Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, says he has made a passionate appeal for peace in Rivers State.
News About Nigeria reports that during a courtesy visit to Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Friday, Kalu urged conflicting parties to put aside their differences.
He emphasised the importance of peace and reconciliation, stressing that they are vital for the well-being of the state.
Kalu specifically advised Governor Fubara to reconcile with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
He believes that reconciliation would be in the best interest of Rivers State and its people.
Kalu urged the parties to sheathe their swords, adding that he hopes to see a peaceful resolution to the conflicts in Rivers State.
He informed the Rivers governor of his plan to involve President Bola Tinubu in facilitating a speedy reconciliation process.
Kalu praised Fubara’s commitment to the growth of Rivers State, acknowledging his dedication to the people’s welfare.
He encouraged the governor to continue prioritising the people’s needs, ensuring their well-being and prosperity.
Kalu’s intervention aims to bring peace and unity to Rivers State, fostering an environment conducive to growth and development.
He said he hopes to see an end to the conflicts in Rivers State, paving the way for a brighter future.
He added that by working together, he believes that Rivers State can achieve great things, and he is committed to supporting the process.
He said, “Governor Fubara, your leadership has shown great promise, and it is evident that you have the people’s best interests at heart.
“I encourage you to maintain peace and work towards reconciliation with former governor Wike.
“Such unity will undoubtedly strengthen the state and foster an environment conducive to growth and development. I also promise to get President Tinubu involved to ensure a speedy reconciliation process.”
In October 2023, Tinubu intervened in the political feud, facilitating the signing of a peace pact agreement by both parties involved.
However, hostilities have continued between the governor and his predecessor, as well as their supporters.
