NAF Schools Face Scrutiny From Air Chief After Student Death

Following the death of Blaise Aliyu at the Air Force Comprehensive School in Kaduna, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has issued a stern warning to commandants, staff, and instructors in Nigerian Air Force (NAF) schools nationwide.

In a directive conveyed through a statement released on Thursday by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Abubakar stated that any act of negligence leading to injury or threat to the life of any student will not be tolerated.

News About Nigeria gathered that Blaise Aliyu died after being punished by two senior colleagues.

According to reports, two SS3 students summoned Aliyu to their room and subjected him to a punishment that led to his death.

During his interaction with the Commandant and staff of Air Force Comprehensive School, Iyana-Offa in Ibadan, Oyo State, Air Marshal Abubakar stressed the paramount importance of the safety, well-being, and academic excellence of all students in NAF comprehensive and secondary schools nationwide.

He said, “Any attempt to infringe on these priorities will not be tolerated.”

He urged school officials to adhere to established guidelines and proactively identify potential risks to prevent avoidable incidents.

“It is your responsibility to follow laid down guidelines as well as other means in identifying red flags that may indicate gaps or lapses within your school environments to forestall avoidable incidents or tragedies. I will not condone any act that would lead to injuries or the death of any of our students,” Abubakar stated.

Furthermore, the Chief of Air Staff called on commandants and staff to prioritise the interests of the students above all else.
