JAMB Refutes Setting National Cut-Off Marks For Tertiary Institutions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), along with vice-chancellors of universities, rectors of polytechnics, and provosts of colleges of education, will convene on July 18, 2024, to determine the cut-off or minimum benchmarks for admission into higher education institutions in Nigeria.

According to a notice obtained by newsmen on Monday, the meeting will be chaired by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman.

News About Nigeria reports that the notice detailed the agenda for the meeting, emphasising its significance in shaping the admissions landscape for the upcoming academic year.

“During the exercise, the registrar will present reports on the just-concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the ongoing Direct Entry applications while also analysing key performance indicators that could shape the policy directions of the government in the area of admission,” the notice read.

“Also, the meeting would apprise stakeholders of the salient issues that cropped up in the course of the previous years’ admission exercise.

“In addition, the policy meeting would also look at the performance of candidates in the current year’s UTME in order to determine the year’s minimum admissible score.”

The meeting will also review salient issues that emerged during the previous year’s admission exercise.

In addition, stakeholders will evaluate the performance of candidates in the current year’s UTME to establish the minimum admissible score for admission.

This annual policy meeting is crucial as it sets the tone for the admission requirements for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

Stakeholders have, in past years, agreed on minimum admission requirements, ensuring a standardised process across various institutions.
