The Labour Party in Lagos State has questioned the response of the state government to the outbreak of cholera in the state, News About Nigeria reports.
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mrs. Olubunmi Odesanya, made this known in a statement on Friday in Lagos.
Odesanya stated that the Labour Party in the State is upset with the Sanwo-Olu-led administration, noting that the government is not giving the problem the kind of response it should.
She lamented that despite the fact that the epidemic is fast-spiralling, the government has done nothing more than a mere issuance of an advisory.
“Labour Party in Lagos State is calling to question the responsiveness of the state government to the current cholera epidemic in the state; the scourge is fast spiralling.
“LP Lagos State is upset that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu government has not accorded the problem the kind of response it should.
“So far, the government has not done more than a mere issuance of an advisory.
“Has the government looked into the remote and direct cause of the disease with a view to abating the spread of the dreaded disease? The time for action is now,” she stated.
She further noted that the reported number of deaths is over 40 and the infection rate is about 400, adding that residents cannot afford an uncontrolled spread of the epidemic as they are already grappling with many socio-economic problems.
She, therefore, urged Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intensify efforts at controlling the spread of cholera, especially in schools, maintaining that the state government must work hard and give the epidemic the required emergency response.
