The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, has stated that it will begin a probe into the allegations of its officers extorting citizens, News About Nigeria reports.
The Force Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated this via his verified handle on X on Thursday.
He disclosed this while responding to a complaint by a tweep that some of the officers extort citizens.
The tweep identified as Grandmaster, reached out to the PRO, alleging that some of the police operatives go about arresting and intimidating young boys and also extorting them recklessly at gunpoint.
He called out a set of policemen on an outpost under Phase 4 Kubwa command who arrested a 17-year-old boy and tried to extort him of 200k.
“Some of your men go abt arresting & intimidating young boys and extorting them recklessly at gun point. A case in point is a set of policemen on outpost under Phase 4 Kubwa command who arrested a 17yr old boy and trying to extort him of 200k now. I have details,” the tweep stated.
Reacting to this, Adejobi stated that he has shared the complaint with the FCT Commissioner of Police and mentioned it at the ongoing IGP Conference in Abuja, adding that the CP is acting on it.
“Ok. I just shared this complaint with the CP FCT and mentioned the same at the IGP’s Conference in abuja. The cp FCT is acting on it. Thanks. @Jossy_Dannyking, @FCT_PoliceNG, @PoliceNG_CRU,” he stated.
The conference is aimed at promoting professionally competent police officers.
